Today is the Deadline to Apply for an Absentee Ballot for House District 49 Special Election


Thursday, July 30, 2020 – MONTGOMERY – For the House District 49 Special Primary Election, today is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot.

House District 49 includes parts of Bibb, Chilton, and Shelby counties.

Secretary of State John H. Merrill has extended the opportunity for anyone concerned about COVID-19 to apply for and cast an absentee ballot through selecting the box on the application which reads as follows:

“I have a physical illness or infirmity which prevents my attendance at the polls. [ID REQUIRED]”

Absentee ballot applications can be downloaded online or requested by visiting or calling the local Absentee Election Manager’s office.

The deadline to return an absentee ballot to the Absentee Election Manager is the close of business Monday, August 3, and the last day to postmark an absentee ballot is Monday, August 3.

Voters who are eligible to vote pursuant to the Uniformed and Overseas Absentee Voting Act will have until Tuesday, August 4 to postmark an absentee ballot.

Please note that there will not be a Democratic Special Primary Election because only one Democratic candidate qualified for the Election.

If necessary, a Runoff Election will be held on September 1.

The General Election will be held on November 17.
